CDSA

Intravenous Moderate Sedation: A drug-induced depression of consciousness administered through an intravenous line, during which patients respond purposefully to verbal commands, either alone or accompanied by light tactile stimulation. This technique allows for more precise control of the level of sedation compared to oral sedation

In dental practice, IV moderate sedation offers several advantages:

Patients under IV moderate sedation maintain their own airway and can breathe spontaneously, but may have slightly depressed cardiovascular function. Continuous monitoring of vital signs is essential. This method is particularly useful for longer procedures or for patients with higher levels of anxiety.

As with all forms of sedation, specific training and equipment are required to safely administer and monitor IV moderate sedation in a dental setting.
